MAGISTRATES have jailed a serial shoplifter caught stealing while subject to a community order.

Paul Murphy admitted stealing super-strength lager from McColls in London Road, North End, on April 15.

The 39-year-old also pleaded guilty to stealing two bottles of cider from a Co-op store in Portsmouth on April 12.

He also admitted attempting to steal eight cans of lager from a Portsmouth Co-op on April 19.

Murphy, from Twyford Avenue, Stamshaw, pleaded guilty to committing the crimes while he was already subject to a community order imposed for using threatening behaviour.

Portsmouth magistrates sentenced Murphy to 90 days in prison.
