Serious ongoing incident in Portsmouth city centre with emergency crews racing to scene as police move to calm fears

A serious incident has taken place in the city this evening as a convoy of police, firefighters and paramedics raced to Museum Road.

Police have set up a cordon in the road.

An incident response unit is also at the scene as police search the area.

It has been reported that part of Ravelin Park has been sealed off.

With rumours spreading on social media, police have urged the public to ‘refrain from speculating’ what has happened.

‘We are currently on the scene of an incident on Museum Road and want to reassure residents that at this stage this appears to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the community,’ a post on social media said.

‘We'll provide further updates when possible. Please refrain from speculating on social media.’
