TRAFFICKING victims should be better supported, a politician has said.
South East MEP Catherine Bearder called on the government to protect victims, in a report in European Parliament.
Mrs Bearder, a Lib Dem, said an EU law designed to do so is not being properly applied.
She said: ‘Modern slavery is happening right under our noses, including right here in Hampshire. While there has been a lot of progress made in recent years to dismantle criminal gangs running this vile trade, not enough is being done to help the victims.
‘The government must step up efforts to train law enforcement officials so they can spot the signs and give human trafficking victims the help they need.’
The Modern Slavery Partnership was launched last year in Hampshire to tackle the crime.
