A man’s body has been found by the lake on Southampton Common, police have said.
Officers were called just before 9am after the body was discovered by the Ornamental Lake in the centre of the park.
Police have said the death ‘is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious at this time.’
Next of kin have not been informed, and police have not confirmed any more details about the man.
Officers are currently at the scene carrying out an investigation.
This morning’s Southampton park run, a weekly 5k run held on the Common, was cancelled earlier due to a ‘serious incident’.
Organisers tweeted: ‘Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of our control, we were unable to hold today’s parkrun.
‘This was due to a serious incident on another part of the Common and with the emergency vehicles requiring access, we made the decision to cancel the event.’
They later posted: ‘Event Director Rob has asked to pass on his thanks to all the attendees. and volunteers for their patience and support on a difficult day.’
It comes after the body of a 66-year-old man was found in woodland off Cemetery Road by the Common last month.
Tommy Scott, 34, of no fixed abode, has been charged with killing Gerald Pragnell and a trial will be held next year.
