Southsea assault victim tells of attack

A VICTIM of a brutal attack has told how the assault left him unable to go out alone.

Jason Garrad, 43, was repeatedly kicked in the shocking attack in Waverley Road, Southsea.

The man responsible, Damian McGovern, 43, of Waverley Road, was given an 18-month prison term suspended for two years with three-month curfew at Portsmouth Crown Court after admitting GBH.

In court his defence claimed he was ‘sexually assaulted’ provoking the attack but Mr Garrad has never been investigated, arrested or charged in connection with such a crime.

‘I was scared, he could have killed me,’ Mr Garrad said.

‘I didn’t go out and if I did I would have to get taxis.

‘I wouldn’t walk down Waverley Road. I couldn’t go to the doctors.’
