ALCOHOL thief Jeffrey Mulpeter has been told to pay compensation.

Mulpeter admitted stealing four bottles of whisky from Waitrose in Marmion Road, Southsea, on September 22.

He pleaded guilty to stealing three bottles of rum from the same store two days earlier.

The 35-year-old, of Osborne Road, Southsea, was told to pay £68.37 compensation to Waitrose by Portsmouth magistrates.

He was told to attend appointments with the probation service for 12 days and undergo treatment for his alcohol problem.

Mulpeter admitted committing the crime while subject to a six-month conditional discharge imposed for another shoplifting offence.

No separate penalty was imposed.
