THIEF Darren Elston has been given a conditional discharge.

Elston pleaded guilty to stealing £60 of goods from Lloyds Pharmacy in Milton Road, Milton, Portsmouth.

The 41-year-old, from Waverley Road, Southsea, pleaded guilty to stealing £22.98 of alcohol from a Lidl store in Portsmouth.

Elston admitted committing the crimes while he was subject to a suspended sentence for three counts of theft.

He was given a nine-month conditional discharge.

Portsmouth magistrates decided not to activate the three-month suspended sentence.

However Elston was put under supervision for a year.

Magistrates made no order for costs or compensation.
