A MAN will stand trial accused of sexually assaulting a woman and then intimidating her in a bid to stop the case going to court.

George Merritt, 55, of Rowan Copse, Southsea, denied one charge of sexual assault and two of intimidation and was bailed at Portsmouth Crown Court.

The offences are alleged to have taken place in March. The woman cannot be named for legal reasons. Merritt is to stand trial in December.
