A 50-YEAR-OLD man has been given an £80 fixed penalty notice for wasting police time.

He was arrested after armed police were called to a property in Waverley Road, Southsea, as reported in The News yesterday.

Armed officers and police dogs were deployed to the house at 10.40am on Thursday after being told there were firearms at the address.

They arrested the man on suspicion of making threats to kill.

Waverley Road was cordoned off at its junction with St Ronan’s Road, Clarendon Road was cordoned off at its junction with Kenilworth Road and part of Granada Road was also sectioned off while officers investigated the incident.
