A THIEF who broke into a cafe and stole £400 has been jailed for four months.

Aaron Smith raided The Nut Cafe in London Road, North End.

The 27-year-old got into the staff office and took a cash box with the money inside.

Unemployed Smith carried out the burglary during a three-day crime spree last November.

He stole £150 worth of food and drink from the Co-op in Castle Street, Portchester and £90 worth of goods from the Co-op in White Hart Lane, Fareham.

Smith, of Waverley Road, Southsea, pleaded guilty to burglary and two counts of theft when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard he had an appalling list of previous convictions for similar theft offences. No order for compensation was made.
