Southseas man charged with attacking police community support officer

A SOUTHSEA man was arrested and charged after allegedly attacking a police community support officer.

The officer went to intervene in an argument between a man and a woman outside the White Hart pub in East Cowes, on the Isle of Wight.

The PCSO was hit in the face and sustained serious facial injuries in the assault, which happened at 7.30pm on Saturday.

The officer, aged in his 40s, was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital and needed surgery to his injuries.

Matthew Lowdon, 30, of Francis Avenue, Southsea, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was bailed to appear before magistrates at Newport on October 2.

Local police inspector Terry Clawson said: ‘We are doing everything we can to support the injured officer.’
