Simon Hayes, Hampshire’s police and crime commissioner, said: ‘Certainly it generated a lot of interest and we know that sometimes people think about it overnight and the next day and will then phone the number.

‘It’s not just what’s done on the day.

‘The important thing is that the information people give to Crimestoppers is anonymous.’

More than 100 people are being hunted in the Most Wanted appeal in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The van was in Gosport in the morning and in Havant in the afternoon yesterday.
