Two fire crews, one from Havant and another from Cosham, were scrambled to tackle the blaze off Hulbert Road, Bedhampton, at 5.20am today.

When they arrived, the pair of industrial dumper trucks were ‘well alight’, according to Havant watch manager Ben Holt.

He said: ‘We had to run a hose reel across the building site to extinguish the fire. We managed to stop it spreading to an adjacent excavator.’

Crews remained on the scene for more than an hour making the site safe.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been confirmed officially yet and is under investigation.

But watch manager Holt suspected vandals were the cause and said: ‘It would appear to have been started deliberately.’

Fire crews cleared the scene shortly after 6.30am.
