Second man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Portsmouth incident

BURGLARS attempted to escape being arrested by garden hopping through a street in Milton.

A dramatic chase unfolded yesterday morning when police were alerted to an attempted burglary at a property in Milton Road.

Hampshire Police were called to the scene just after 11am.

Eyewitnesses told officers they had seen three men acting suspiciously and had been seen fleeing towards Posbrooke Road and Meon Road.

Two of the offenders were caught in Milton Road, but one fled to Meon Road.

A police helicopter was also used to help officers, who came from Cosham, Fratton and Southsea police stations.

Sally Adams, spokeswoman for Hampshire Police, said: ‘We were called at 11.03am to reports of three men acting suspiciously around an address in Milton Road.

‘Officers attended the address and quickly established a burglary had taken place.

‘Eye witnesses told officers that three men had been seen escaping from the address and garden hopping through Posbrooke Road and Meon Road.

‘Officers pursued on foot and the force’s helicopter was deployed to assist the officers on the ground.

‘By 11.32am, three men had been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

‘The men remained in custody yesterday afternoon.’

A 31-year-old man and 40-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested.

And a 20-year-old man from Waterlooville was also detained.
