A TEENAGER who assaulted a police officer has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Kevin Batchelor, 18, admitted assaulting the officer in Portsmouth on October 30.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing £2.76 of confectionary from a Co-op in Southsea the previous day and to assaulting a detention officer in the city on the same day.

Batchelor, of Frensham Road, Southsea, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for a year by Portsmouth magistrates. He was put under supervision for a year.
