Teens arrested after man is seriously assaulted during screening of Bohemian Rhapsody at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth

The 49-year-old was watching the Queen biopic on Saturday afternoon when a gang of teenagers burst into screen 11 of the Vue cinema at Gunwharf Quays. 

As they began shouting abuse at people watching the film, the man approached the youths '“ who did not have tickets '“ in a bid to get them ejected from the screening. 

But he became a victim of a vicious assault when he met by kicks and punches to the head, body and face. 

Members of staff then managed to get the attackers out of the building, but the man may now require surgery after suffering a fracture to his left shoulder, as well as cuts and bruises. 

Police are now appealing to witnesses of the attack, which occurred between 2.20pm and 2.35pm. 

Detective constable Pete Bambury said: '˜I would like to speak to anyone who saw these youths in the cinema or witnessed the assault.

'˜It would have been obvious if you were at the film as the youths went to the front of the screen and shouted abuse during the screening. We have also been told that people may have helped the injured man.'

A 13-year-boy from Portsmouth and a 14-year-old boy from Havant were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after the attack.

However, they have been released from custody but remain under investigation.
