POLICE are appealing for information after a burglar let himself into a house in Portchester by reaching through the letter box and unlocking the front door.

The burglary happened some time between 8.45am and 7.15pm on Thursday, December 22 at a house in Windmill Grove.

The homeowner was at work at the time, and the thief made off with a black Dell Studio laptop, a man’s brown coat, a Nikon D40 camera, a silver iPod and a camera bag containing lenses and a flash gun.

It is believed the thief searched through the lounge to find the items to steal, before leaving the house by the front door.

PC Phillip Hall said: ‘This is a rare incident to have occurred in Portchester.

‘There would have been a few people in the area during the times provided for the incident.

‘Were you in the area? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously?

‘Or have you been offered any of the stolen items for sale?’
