A 94-YEAR-OLD woman was fleeced of savings after a distraction burglar claimed to be from a care agency.

The victim invited the man into her home in Langdale Avenue, Chichester, and went to find him money as requested.

After seeing where the money was, the man distracted the woman and stole the remaining cash.

Detective Constable David Midgley, from Chichester police, said: ‘Taking advantage of a vulnerable elderly woman is deplorable. I’m keen to speak to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area or who may have had a similar visitor claiming to be from a care service.’

The suspect is described as white, short and of average build.

Police are conducting house-to-house enquiries and forensic examinations following the distraction burglary at around midday last Wednesday. Call Sussex police on 0845 60 70 999.
