Thieves steal wallet from elderly man after distraction burglary

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after an elderly man was burgled.

The victim, 80, allowed two men to enter his home in Waterlooville in the early evening of September 13, after they asked to use his toilet.

Soon after the men left the property on Bere Road, the elderly resident realised that his blazer, containing his wallet, was missing.

Two cash withdrawals totalling £560 were subsequently made from the victim’s Post Office account.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the men, or anyone acting suspiciously in the area, at the time.

One of the men has been described as white with tanned skin, and around 5ft 4ins tall. The second man has been described as white with tanned skin, around 5ft 10ins tall, and overweight.

Both men were allegedly wearing white tops with tree logos on the chest.

DC Jonathan Duggan, of the Northern Investigation Team, said: ‘I would like to remind people to keep their homes locked and secure, especially with the approach of darker evenings, and not to allow strangers into their homes under any pretext without first checking their identity’.
