THIEVES stole a gold pocket watch from a 94-year-old’s sheltered flat.

Burglars targeted sheltered accommodation for the elderly in Stokes Road, Gosport, between 2pm on Tuesday, December 18 and 8.50am on Wednesday, December 19.

The thieves took money along with the 1930s-era gold plated pocket watch from the flat.

And a money box in the communal living area was also hit, as thieves took cash destined to buy residents Christmas cards.

The accommodation is comprised of private flats and is not a care home

A statement from Peverel Retirement, which runs the site, said the firm is working with police.

‘Sadly we can confirm a burglary took place at Homefort House,’ it said.

‘We take the safety and security of Homefort House very seriously with anti-theft equipment, including CCTV, in place across the building.

‘We also provide regular safety and security information to property owners via our on-site house manager.’

‘We are now liaising with the police and would like to thank them for their assistance and support.’

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the thefts.

PC Sam Gee from Gosport police station said: ‘Were you in the area at the time of the incident and did you see any suspicious people?

‘Do you have any information about the stolen property?’

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact PC Gee at Gosport police station by phoning 101.
