Thousands of pounds raised for Portsmouth man fighting for his life

THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for a Portsmouth man fighting for his life in an induced coma.

Well-wishers launched a fundraising bid and hundreds of people have sent them support for 25-year-old Barney Butwell

They hope to raise £3,500 but have already raised £3,200 in just three days.

Barney is in Southampton General Hospital following an incident in Fratton that led to a 21-year-old woman being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Now more people have given their support to Barney and his family on The News’ Facebook page.

Linda Burton said: ‘My thoughts and prayers are with Barney and his family.’

Steve Courtney added: ‘Barry Butwell so sorry to see this mate.my thoughts are with you all x.’

It comes after Barney’s dad and sister, Barry Butwell and Brooke Butwell, told The News of their thanks for the support and heartache at Barney’s condition.

A message on the fundraising page, set up by Andy Gatenby, said: ‘Pompey’s much loved Barney Butwell is critically ill in hospital this page has been set up to raise some funds to help his family and the care of Barney.

‘Please understand that if the money is not needed for Barney, any funds raised will be donated to the Wessex neurological centre at Southampton General.

‘Pray for Barney.’

n A 21-year-old woman was arrested on April 3 on suspicion of attempted murder and bailed until June 22 after Barney was taken to hospital in the early hours of April 2 from an address in Timpson Road, Fratton.
