AN EVICTION notice is being sought after travellers set up camp at a play area.

Two caravans and three cars have moved on to a green space, off Hobby Close, Wecock Farm.

The parkland includes a multi-use games area and a skatepark.

The group moved on to the land this afternoon after being given their marching orders on land at the new Berewood housing development, off Maurepas Way, Waterlooville.

The group moved peacefully off the privately-owned land after staying overnight.

Sally Foster, a spokeswoman for Havant Borough Council, said the authority is applying to the courts for an eviction notice.

The land is owned by Portsmouth City Council, but leased to Havant.

Ms Foster said: ‘We are doing the assessments this afternoon.

‘We have given them bin bags and asked them to use them.

‘We are liaising with the police and working towards evicting them as soon as possible.’

She said the eviction order could take several days.

There have been no reports of disorder or threat to the general public.
