A TREE surgeon who had thousands of pounds worth of equipment stolen is determined it won’t ruin his business.
Adam Mansell, from Southsea, owns Hampshire Tree Services but had £5,000 worth of kit stolen from his van last weekend.
He keeps the van near his parents house in the north of Hayling Island and it was father who discovered it had been broken into.
The thief took five chainsaws, climbing equipment, a leaf blower, a hedge trimmer and other tools.
But, despite of this, Adam said it is not going to stop him carrying on with his job.
The 31-year-old said: ‘I couldn’t believe it when my dad told me that my van had been broken into.
‘I was gutted and angry but now I’ve had time to think and calm down.
‘I reported it to the police but I’m not holding out too much.
‘It would have been easy for them to off-load.
‘More than anything, it’s frustrating because I have clients who are relying on me and contracts I have to keep but I will find some way to replace it. I’ve never had anything like this happen before.
‘Sometimes you just have to accept that these things happen. You can sulk and get angry all you want but what has happened has happened.’
All the equipment was made by Stihl, a specialist manufacturer.
And, although Adam isn’t holding out, he does want the public to look out for his equipment.
He added: ‘If people keep an eye out maybe I’ll get lucky.
‘It would be nice to have my old stuff back because it is costly to replace and I don’t know if my insurance will cover it where it was in my van, off a public road.
‘There are not many tree surgeons in the Hampshire area so hopefully I’ll get some more stuff and can carry on helping people and doing what I enjoy.
‘I just felt bad that I was letting down my clients and had to keep them hanging when they were relying on me.
‘But Hampshire Tree Services will definitely be back in business and I’m not letting the thief stop me.’
