Trial date for fatal crash

A DRIVER is to stand trial over the death of a moped rider.

Simon Boyd, 39, of Chaffinch Green in Waterlooville, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court yesterday.

He is charged with causing death by driving without due care and attention.

The case comes after Gary Martin, 52, of Gosport, died after a crash between his Yamaha moped and a Mitsubishi pick-up truck.

The crash happened at the Kirpal Road junction with Eastern Road, Portsmouth, at around 6.20am on October 26 last year.

Mr Martin’s family watched from the public gallery as Boyd entered the not guilty plea to the charge.

Judge Roger Hetherington adjourned the case to the trial.

It is due to last four days and starts on August 7.
