Two arrested after dog attacks child in Waterlooville

Two people have been arrested after an 18-month-old child was attacked by a dog in Waterlooville.

The child sustained two fractures to the arm and cuts to the face and neck after the attack, which was between 4pm and 4.30pm yesterday in Tennyson Crescent.

Police say they are still investigating exactly what happened, but have made two arrests.

Eyewitnesses said they were shocked as they saw the child laid out on a blanket at the front of a block of flats, and said they thought a Staffordshire bull terrier was responsible.

A 40-year-old man from Waterlooville has been arrested on suspicion of being the owner or person in charge of dog dangerously out of control causing injury.

 A 27-year-old woman from Hayling Island has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting, ill-treating, neglecting or abandoning a child or young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.

A spokesman said: ‘Enquiries are on-going to establish the exact circumstances. Residents may notice an increased police presence in the area, while we conduct house-to-house enquiries.’
