Two arrested after racist attack in Portsmouth

TWO men have been arrested after a racist attack near the University of Portsmouth.

The assault took place between 4pm and 4.45pm on Saturday near the university building in Waltham Street.

A 46-year-old man, who was with a friend, was assaulted by two men who were crossing the road in the direction of Winston Churchill Avenue.

Police say the suspects made racist remarks during the incident.

Officers would now like to speak to anyone who witnessed an altercation.

A 50-year-old man, from Southsea, has been arrested on suspicion of common assault, and a 43-year-old Portsmouth man has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Both men have been bailed until April 3.
