UPDATE: Man admits damage after rooftop stand-off in Portsmouth street

A MAN has admitted criminal damage and assault after a four-hour stand-off.

Ben McCreadie, 26, of New Road, Portsmouth, hurled roof tiles from the top of a row of terraced houses in Widley Road, Stamshaw, yesterday.

Today at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court he admitted eight counts of criminal damage and an assault by beating.

It comes after police were called to an incident in Widley Road, Stamshaw, at around 1.40am yesterday.

Speaking yesterday a police spokeswoman said: 'Police were called at about 1.40am regarding an incident in Widley Road, Stamshaw.

'On police arrival the man took to a roof of a residential property.

'The man threw roof tiles at police officers and at vehicles.

'Police negotiators attended the scene and a cordon was put in place.

'Extensive damage has been caused to vehicles in the road.

'The incident concluded at around 5am.'

McCreadie was bailed and is due to be sentenced on Friday, November 18.
