A MAN has been charged after a pensioner was assaulted in Gosport.
Police announced tonight that Duncan Snellgrove, 28, of Howe Road, Gosport has been charged with grievous bodily harm following a serious assault on Sunday (September 25).
A 69-year-old man hit his head on the road following a dispute on the one-way system on Bury Road in Gosport at around 5.50pm.
He was with his wife who was in a wheelchair, when he had an altercation with another man who had been on a bicycle and who cycled off towards Stoke Road.
The injured man is still being treated at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for a serious head injury.
Snellgrove remains in police custody and is due to appear Portsmouth Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
Having spoken to other witnesses, officers believe that a member of the public, whom they have not yet spoken to, may have taken photos on their mobile phone around the time of the assault. A number of motorists who may have driven past at the time have also not yet contacted police.
