It’s believed he had been planning on going to the beach for a nap, but hadn’t been seen since leaving a venue called Mama Bakers.

But now close friends say he has posted a message on Facebook from an internet cafe in Nice to say he is okay – but had been set upon by thugs and had his phone and wallet stolen.

Portsmouth publican Steve Hudson said: ‘Apparently he had been set upon, and has his wallet stolen and managed to make his way to an internet cafe in Nice and put a message out on Facebook to safe he is safe.

‘So we are trying to contact him now.’

Mr Hudson said Mr Leslie is a popular character who pops in to the The Shepherds Crook and The Milton Arms regularly.

He said: ‘He is a really nice, happy go lucky lad.

‘He loves Pompey and he’s always at their matches.’
