UPDATE: Roads closed after man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Portsmouth last night

ROADS near the University of Portsmouth have been cordoned off after an incident last night which has led to the arrest of 21-year-old man from London on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 20-year-old man from Birmingham was found with serious injuries in Middle Street shortly before midnight yesterday and officers have cordoned off roads around the area to investigate the incident.

A police spokesman said: ‘Middle Street is cordoned off up to the junction with Eldon Street.

‘There is also a cordon in place at the Bedford Street alleyway down to Peel Place.

‘There is no access to Sackville Street from Middle Street and Eldon Street and the junction between King Street and Eldon Street is also closed.

‘The University car park is also cordoned off.’

Students are advised to use Melbourne Place and St Vincent Street to access university buildings.
