VANDALS have caused £500-worth of damage after tearing down brand new fences at Portsmouth dog kennels.

Police are investigating after the fencing was forcibly removed from the new kennel site on Great Salterns Farm, Burrfields Road, on the evenings of September 13 and 14.

Around 50, three metre high planks were removed, also causing damage to the remaining fence.

Clive Rankin, built environment manager at Portsmouth City Council, said: ‘This is clearly mindless vandalism and staff at the kennels have been left distressed by the incident.

‘We’re going to have to find £500 from somewhere to pay for the damage, but we’d rather spend this money on care for the dogs rather than have to replace brand new fencing.

‘It also makes staff working at the kennels feel uncomfortable staying there late in the evening.’
