PEOPLE living in Copnor are being asked to be more vigilant following a spate of burglaries in the area.

Since August this year 22 burglaries have been reported – and they have become more frequent in recent weeks.

Jewellery is one of the most commonly stolen items during these raids, and Aylen Road, Green Lane, Copnor Road, Laburnum Grove and Winton Road have all been targeted more than once. The burglaries mainly occur in the evening between the hours of 4pm and 10pm.

A 70-year-old woman in Aylen Road was targeted overnight between Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 4.

Thieves smashed a rear patio door and took a gold chain necklace with a pendant of a map of South Africa, a gold chunky chain bracelet and a gold ring with a straight band of sapphires and diamonds, from the property.

Anyone with information should contact PC Hannah Buckley at Fratton station on 101 or 0845 045 4545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
