WATCH: Car crashes into Mick's Monster Burgers van

Here is the moment a driver lost control of his car and crashed into the side of a popular Portsmouth burger van.

Staff and customers at Mick’s Monster Burgers on Portsdown Hill had their shock of their lives when the vehicle reversed, span around in front of the van and accelerated into the front.

Owner Mick Johnsey told The News how the driver, who he believed had lost control of the car, knocked over a motorcyclist and narrowly avoided two customers before coming to a stop.

He said: ‘Everything flew off the shelves. There was a lot of damage to the trailer.

‘The till flew up in the air. The oil flew out of the cooker.

‘Three of my staff were in there, it was a real shock for them.

‘Two of them had minor injuries but hopefully they won’t be long term.’

An ambulance and police were immediately called to the incident, which happened at about 2.30pm on Friday.

Luckily for Mick, from Fareham, engineers were soon on site to fix the gas supply so they were able to start work again within six hours.

But he said the damage caused to the side of the trailer could cost between £20,000 and £25,000 to fix, and is now waiting to see if insurers will cover the money.

It is not thought the driver, who was driving a blue Vauxhall Vectra, or the motorcyclist was seriously injured.

Mick, 66, added: ‘We were lucky that the two ladies waiting moved away from the hatch in time.

‘I feel sorry for him [the driver]. I know police are investigating what happened.

‘I was really impressed with the engineer’s service, they turned up within 15 minutes. I bought them two cases of beer after to thank them.’
