WATCH: City road closed for an hour for police operation

A residential street in Portsmouth was closed for an hour this afternoon while police helped take away untaxed cars.

Officers were pictured inspecting and taking away vehicles in Tangier Road between 1pm and 2pm.

A police spokeswoman said the operation went smoothly.

She said: ‘It was a council-led operation to remove untaxed cars in Tangier Road.

‘The police were there to assist with the road closure and to ensure there was no breach of the peace.

‘There were no arrests and the operation was a success.’

Portsmouth’s neighbourhood police team also tweeted a picture of the force’s vehicles in Tangier Road, praising the work of the Fratton and Baffins teams, and using the hashtag #notaxnodrive.
