A MAN who was found with thousands of indecent images of children has been jailed.

David Rogers downloaded 5,868 photographs of children being abused from the internet at his home in Cherry Tree Avenue, Waterlooville.

Police found the images when they searched the house last June.

When he was interviewed by police the 36-year-old admitted searching for the images on the web.

He pleaded guilty to 18 charges of making indecent images of children and two of possessing the images when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard he had regularly downloaded the photographs over a four-year period, from 2007 up to his arrest last summer.

Jailing him for three months, District Judge Anthony Calloway said custody was the only option because of the vast number of images and the timespan of the offending.

The judge handed Rogers a sexual offences prevention order, banning him from having a computer or any equipment capable of using the internet for five years.
