WINE thief Charlene Preston has been given a suspended sentence.

The 30-year-old stole a £5 bottle of wine from the Co-op in Forestside Avenue, Havant.

Preston, of Lucerne Avenue, Waterlooville, pleaded guilty to theft when she appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court. The court heard she had a number of previous convictions for theft and had breached community orders handed to her in the past.

The magistrates gave Preston a two-month prison sentence suspended for a year.

She will have a year of supervision from the probation service to help her stay out of trouble. Preston was also told to pay £5 in compensation to the Co-op and £85 in court costs.
