DETECTIVES have released more details in a bid to catch a man who tried to abduct a 12-year-old girl.

The girl was walking along a grass path near the entrance to Leesland Park and Toronto Place, in Gosport, when she was approached by a man, as reported in The News.

Police say he asked the girl to show him around the local area, before grabbing the hood of her coat some time between 5.40pm and 6pm on Wednesday.

The 12-year-old pulled free and ran back along the path towards Gosport town centre.

The suspect is described as white, with short, light-coloured hair. He was wearing a bright-coloured sports top with short sleeves.

Detective Constable Barbara Hamilton said: ‘This is a serious incident that has left the girl shocked and upset.

‘We are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed it.

‘This kind of incident is extremely rare but we always advise people to never go alone in secluded areas.’
