Woman, 72, has mobility scooter stolen from locked shed outside Portsmouth home

A WOMAN who relies on her mobility scooter to go about her daily life has been left struggling to get around after it was stolen.

Veronica Stace, 72, returned home to Ladywood House in Portsmouth on Saturday, August 25, only to find that by the time she went to leave again the Tuesday after, it had been stolen from a locked shed outside the block of flats.

The shed is used to hold residents' scooters and has between 20-30 inside '“ but only Veronica's was stolen.

She said: '˜You need a fob to get in the shed, it's all locked up.

'˜I suffer with asthma and can't walk very far. I rely on it to go to work, go shopping and visit people. 

'I can't really go anywhere without it. I can get on the bus but I still have to do a lot of walking.

'˜I'm angry because they cost thousands of pounds, I paid for it myself.'

Veronica, an Age Concern UK volunteer, said her scooter is a Shoprider from Elite Mobility and, burgundy in colour and two-years-old.

She added: '˜In the past one man had his vandalised. I don't care who took it, I just want it back.'

Portsmouth City Council has been informed of the theft as it owns Ladywood House, and the crime reported to the police.
