A WOMAN was attacked by youths in Portsmouth after refusing to hand over her mobile phone and cash.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident on Saturday.

Between midnight and 1am, the 35-year-old woman was walking along Commercial Road near Debenhams, when she was approached by a group.

She was told to hand over her phone and cash.

When she refused, she was assaulted and left dazed on the floor. She had minor injuries.

The first attacker was white, in his mid teens, 5ft 5in tall, of larger than average build with short brown coloured hair and a round face. The second man was white, in his late teens to early 20s, average build and height with short dark hair.

He was wearing trainers and was riding a dark framed mountain bike.

The stolen items were a Samsung Galaxy Ace Mobile phone, £30, and a wallet.

Investigating officer Det Con Sheena Ives said: ‘This is an extremely rare incident in such an open location. It happened at a time when there would be many people still milling around from the various pubs, clubs and eating establishments that are nearby.’
