A WOMAN is due to stand trial accused of begging for money.

Frances Newton is accused of asking people for money in Highland Road, Southsea.

The 30-year-old denied the offence when she appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

She told the district judge she had just been asking people to change coins she had so that she could use a pay phone to call her mother.

Newton, of Cromwell Road, Eastney, Portsmouth, was released on bail to stand trial on November 29,
