A WOMAN walked in on burglars rifling through her belongings.

The thieves were disturbed by the woman as they were ransacking her house in London Road, Cowplain.

The burglars got into the house by smashing a window in the back door.

While the woman was calling police outside, the crooks escaped, taking jewellery from boxes in the main bedroom.

Police are now appealing for witnesses into the burglary, which happened at about 2pm on Tuesday.

PC Nicola Burton, from Waterlooville police, said: ‘The offenders were disturbed by the homeowners and fled the address.

‘Their route may have taken them on to Longwood Avenue and the surrounding roads. There were possibly people in the area that may have seen somebody running away, or acting suspiciously.’

A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the burglary. Call Waterlooville police with information on 101.
