POLICE are stepping up patrols after an attempted robbery in woodland.

A 28-year-old woman was walking through woods between Yew Tree Drive and Marjoram Way in Whiteley at 9.15am on Monday when she was targeted.

The robber grabbed her arm as they passed each other. He demanded she hand over her bag but she fought him off and fled on foot.

He had dark brown hair, short at the sides and longer on top as well as a thick goatee beard.

He wore dark blue jeans with a thick padded jacket that had red arms and a blue/green body.

Det Con Michael Strangeway said: ‘The woman managed to fight off her attacker and thankfully only received minor injuries. We are stepping up patrols in the area, and would ask people to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.’
