Woman hurt after fighting off robber in Portsmouth

A PENSIONER was left with cuts and grazes after she fought off an attack by a thug in Portsmouth.

The 69-year-old victim was walking in Havant Street, Portsea, yesterday when she was approached by a man who tried to steal her handbag.

However, the plucky pensioner fought back and was pushed to the ground during the tussle, leaving her with cuts and grazes to her shoulder.

Police have now launched an investigation into the attack, which happened at about 1.15pm, and released images of a suspect.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire police said: ‘Do you know this man?

‘We know they’re grainy images, but we think someone might know him.

‘We would like to trace him after a 69-year-old woman was approached by a man who tried to steal her handbag on Havant Street between at 1.15pm yesterday..

‘The woman managed to keep hold of her handbag however did fall to the ground during the incident suffering cuts and grazes to her right shoulder.

'This man was captured on CCTV in the Havant Street area, close to the enclosed space behind Benbow House where the incident took place.’
