TWO thugs injured a woman when they tried to rob her on the street when she was walking her dog.

But a member of the public intervened and the men ran away empty-handed.

The 35-year-old woman was in Devonshire Avenue, Southsea, opposite the Spar shop when it happened on Friday at around 10pm.

Two men aged 17-25 came up and tried to restrain her to steal her valuables, but after a member of the public intervened they ran away.

Police said the woman sustained facial injuries in the attack.

Detective Constable Alison Richards said: ‘While this type of incident may concern residents, we would like to reassure you that this type of robbery, in a fairly busy area of Southsea, is not common and the local neighbourhood policing team have been patrolling in the area.

‘We are really keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, or knows who the offenders are to contact us as soon as possible.’

One of the men was wearing a beige hoodie and the other had on a dark sweatshirt.

Anyone with information should contact the eastern investigation team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
