AN attacker who pounced on a 20-year-old woman in a late-night assault as she walked home is being hunted by police.

The victim was walking along Church Road, in Selsey, near Chichester, when the attacker struck.

The man, who is not known to the victim, accosted the woman and grabbed hold of her left arm.

She managed to break free after a brief struggle and the man fled.

The woman suffered minor bruising but was otherwise unhurt.

However, police say she was left badly shaken by the incident, which happened between 11pm and midnight on Monday.

PC Eugene Hermon from Sussex Police, who is investigating, is appealing to anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information that could help his inquiry to get in touch.

PC Hermon said ‘We have not yet established any motive but this is an isolated incident for the area.

‘If anyone has any information that would help our enquiry, please contact us via 101 quoting serial 0029 of July 10.’

The suspect is described as a white man with scruffy hair who is aged between 30 and 40.

He was wearing a coat with a hood and jeans.
