POLICE were called to an attempted break-in in Southsea.

A woman was spotted knocking on the doors of houses in Frensham Road, before looking through the letterboxes of the properties and trying to pick the locks.

Another resident in the road, who asked to remain anonymous, saw the incident at around 1.15pm on Wednesday and police were called to the scene.

Officers arrived at 1.35pm and carried out an extensive search of the area, but no-one matching the description was found.

A police spokesman said there
was no evidence of damage to the properties.

The witness described the woman as being white, in her mid to late 40s, and wearing a cream jumper and jeans. Her hair was dark and tied back.

The eyewitness told The News: ‘The whole thing has made me feel quite nervous, especially as I’ve just moved to the street.

‘I couldn’t believe she was doing it in broad daylight.’
