A MAN was beaten in Emsworth after telling a group of youths to be quiet.

Police are appealing for witnesses who might have seen the attack in which the victim suffered cuts and grazes to his head, legs and arms.

The attack occurred after a large group of youths were causing problems for traffic in Havant Road and Bridge Road, in Emsworth, at around 8.30pm on July 19.

A 41-year-old man, who lives nearby, asked them to calm down and was then attacked by three or four men.

Police were called and a 19-year-old Fareham man was arrested a short time later.

The attackers are white and aged around 20.

Detective Constable Sheila Mason said: ‘Something like this is very rare in Emsworth and we are sure local people will be keen to help us find those responsible.

‘If anyone did see what happened then please get in contact me at Waterlooville CID on 101.’

The arrested man has been released pending further enquiries until September 3.
