People had their pictures taken with the international trophy at The Avenue Lawn Tennis, Squash and Fitness Club in Hilsea.

The Avenue’s honourable secretary, Jenny Ward, says she hopes that the event will encourage young people to get more involved in the sport.

She said: ‘Rather than sitting behind a mobile phone and on apps, why not get out in the open?’

The cup is on a six-month tour of the UK, and will also be on display at Portsmouth Tennis Centre and Tennis Academy on August 30.

Great Britain lifted the trophy for the 10th time last year, and will be defending their title against Argentina in the semi-finals next month.
