THE future of a social club’s hall will be decided soon.

Church leaders are considering the options as they look at a structural engineer’s report into the Iona Hall, in Gosport.

Trustees at the Diocese of Portsmouth will decide the storm-damaged club’s fate in June.

The Rev Dr Stephen Morgan, of the diocese, said options ranged from demolishing the hall and building a new one, maintenance work, or knocking it down and using the land for another purpose.

As reported, the hall, in Fisher Road, was damaged in storms earlier this year.

But the club’s committee said it wanted to pay for repair.

Father Peter Glas, at St Mary’s Church, Gosport, told them it could not be done.

The nearly-200 strong club met last month to challenge the church’s decision.

Now Bridgemary ward councillors Dennis and Jill Wright have written to the church asking it to do all it can to reinstate the hall.
