Dedication ceremony for Havant's war memorial

Following years of research, the names of eight members of the armed forces who have been killed in active service since 1945 will be added to the Havant War Memorial, outside St Faith’s Church.

The fallen are from conflicts in Palestine, Northern Ireland, Iraq, the Falklands and Afghanistan. Only those who died in the two world wars are currently listed.

Councillors Leah Turner and Mike Fairhurst wanted to recognise Havant residents who died for their country.

Families of those being recognised on the plaque will be in attendance on Sunday along with members of the Royal Marines Corps and the Royal Engineers. Members of the HMS Ardent Association and HMS Coventry Association will also be attending.

Cllr Turner said: ‘It is an honour and privilege for me as mayor to welcome the families and colleagues of the fallen from the Havant borough since 1945.

‘Their sacrifice will not be forgotten by the councillors, officers and residents of our borough.’

The service begins at 11.15am in St Faith’s Church, West Street.
